Congratulations to Sydney Gallagher, as she has been named Athlete of the Week. Sydney, a junior cross country runner, has been a key part of the girls continued success this season. Sydney turned in a 5th place finish at Glenoak, 12th place finish at Mentor, and a top 15 finish this past weekend at Stow.
According to Coach Petraska, “Sydney continues to be rock solid for our team. She ran a stellar race Saturday to help us finish 2nd to a tough Jackson team and is the kind of runner I wish I could clone: hardworking, focused, determined, positive, and persevering. She is also a stellar student!”
Sydney loves the excitement of meets, as everyone cheers one another on. She hopes that the team can make it to States this season and that she can continue to have strong finishes to help the team. After graduation, Sydney hopes to continue running while pursuing a career in the medical field. In her free time, she enjoys being active outdoors and spending time with her two dogs, Keeva and Maggie.
Cam Rohwedder – field hockey – Cam is a hard-working player who always gives 100%. This weekend, she recorded two defensive saves as she continues to lead the defense.
Mackenzie Pierce – soccer – Mackenzie recorded her first shutout of the season, in goal, as the team defeated Mentor on the road.
Laura Nijhuis – Laura finished 2nd out of 56 players at the Solon Sectional to qualify for Districts!
