Ray “Buck” Hyser Sportsmanship Award
Ray “Buck” Hyser was a long time teacher, coach, and Athletic Director at Hudson High School. His wife Geraldine, was an elementary teacher while their children Skip, Heidi, and Keith made their mark in the Hudson Schools for their academics and athletic participation.
During Buck’s tenure as Athletic Director, the Hudson Schools expanded their sport offerings and started female sports teams all rooted in sportsmanship and integrity. His leadership created an environment for success; as Hudson athletes consistently displayed excellence through athletic performances.
After Buck’s retirement the Athletic Booster’s wanted to honor his legacy, creating the “Hyser Sportsmanship Award.” The criteria was that each sport would have team members vote for a teammate who exhibited the traits Buck supported during his career – sportsmanship, fair play, integrity, team, and school pride.
The Hyser is the last award presented during the team award nights. Since this is a tribute to each team’s member who best represents the tradition of excellence Buck instilled in the Hudson program, it is truly a special recognition.
We congratulate our 2018-19 Hyser Award winners!
